WHY I CARE ABOUT THIS SO MUCH
I know what it is to wait for someone else to decide whether your work matters.
I was a yoga teacher in Barcelona when I wrote my first screenplay. Within a year of finishing it, I had sold the screenplay and been hired to rewrite a script for the director of Die Hard.
Then three projects collapsed in one week.
For eight years, I applied to the Sundance Screenwriting Lab. Eight years of being rejected.
Eventually, I realized that I could not build my creative life around the hope that the right gatekeeper would finally say yes.
I stopped waiting for the Lab. I wrote Obselidia, raised $120,000 to make it independently, and took it to the Sundance Film Festival, where it won two awards.
The difference wasn't that I stopped caring about craft, industry knowledge, or practical action.
The difference was that I stopped outsourcing all of my authority.
I learned how to carry a vision, make a decision, take a real step, and remain in the game when things were uncertain.
I began teaching writers and filmmakers in 2014 because I want more artists to have access to these Keys.
